Real-World Evidence: Taking Stock of 2019 and Expanding into 2020

January 31, 2020

As the CTI global Real-World Evidence and Late Phase Research team begins the year 2020 and the new decade it heralds, we are taking stock of the more than 100 clients for whom we conducted more than 260 projects in 2019. As shown in the figure, our team conducted studies in North America, Central and Latin America, Asia, and Europe, with eyes on the Middle East and North Africa for the future. With focus areas in rare diseases, cell and gene therapy, transplantation, and critical care, we celebrate the beginning of our third decade in the healthcare research business as one of the world's 20 largest CROs. We will continue to excel in our 3 focus areas: strategic consulting, evidence generation, and HTA and market access.
Global Strategy, Local Expertise

CTI RWE-affiliated team consists of outcomes researchers, health economists, epidemiologists, statisticians,  statistical programmers, project managers, pharmacists, physicians, nurses, IT specialists, regulatory experts, CRAs, and other top research professionals. Together, in 2019, we developed a variety of protocols, synopses, manuscripts and other published articles. We developed and managed dozens of retrospective, prospective, and cross-sectional programs. We have and continue to focus on development of global observational studies, obtaining data from multiple sources, including electronic medical records, hospital, payor, laboratory or claims databases and development of proprietary databases.

Generating Real-World Evidence from Real-World Data

While payors and healthcare product manufacturers continue to face increased pressure to consider the economic risks and benefits of coverage decisions, CTI pharmacoeconomics-focused team members performed many  budget impact evaluations, cost-effectiveness and cost minimization analyses, and other assessments of the value of pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device products for our clients. Experts in systematic literature reviews, meta-analysis, statistical reviews, and data safety monitoring boards produced a host of  analyses designed to improve the understanding of clinical trial results.

  Supporting Product Approval and Reimbursement

As the FDA and other regulatory and oversight agencies considered expanded programs at the end of the last decade, and have begun to accept Real-World Evidence in some submissions, CTI experts gathered and analyzed complex data in order to help our clients determine the most appropriate patients to receive the treatments they have developed. Through these studies, we evaluated which markets were appropriate, and where the budgets of payers and patients may be the most positively affected. We gained the information needed to support reimbursement in the US, Europe, Latin America, as well as other regions which look to those regions for guidance.

  The Year of Hope

CTI Cares - Providing Hope to our Communities

The CTI Cares program was established in response to the great interest of our employees who want to give back to society, and in part due to the prior success we’ve had in charitable giving programs.  Each month, an employee-nominated charity is spotlighted and supported by our employees and the company as a whole. This month, our highlighted cause is the Cure Sanfilippo Foundation.

The Cure Sanfilippo Foundation is a nonprofit organization, located in Columbia, SC. Founded in 2013, their mission is “to advocate for fun and fund research directed towards a cure and treatment options for patients with Sanfilippo Syndrome”, a degenerative brain disease in children. Cure Sanfilippo Foundation uses the money raised to fund the most-promising research. To support the foundation or to learn more about their work, visit
