Building Efficiency between Clinical Data Systems

Building Efficiency between Clinical Data Systems
Gathering quality data is critical to the successful execution of a clinical study. The past decade has seen the rise of numerous systems that enable CROs and sponsors to gather data and documents for clinical projects and store them for future analysis. Current industry leaders such as MedidataTransPerfectOmnicomm, and others provide excellent functionality for this purpose. The challenge comes from the need to access up-to-date, synthesized data from all of the different systems in order to make daily project decisions and facilitate team coordination with sponsors, sites, labs, etc. Having efficiencies between systems and a common platform ensures that team members around the globe are connected constantly and have the most accurate information to make decisions quickly and efficiently. System integration is critical for ensuring successful studies and high data integrity.
A Real-time Solution
To address this challenge, CTI has developed a Business Intelligence (BI) suite of applications, dashboards and reports.  BI provides real-time data, allowing management to have both top-level and granular views of important information such as the status of individual projects and overall department resources.
How it Works
BI is fed by an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) which continuously gathers data from from all of the systems used by the CTI project teams around the globe. BI then uses this information to generate interactive dashboards and reports.  Management can then view the real-time status of projects in various areas, e.g., site initiation, enrollment progress, subject adverse events, subject labs, milestones achieved, case report form review, query completion, monitoring visit completions, monitoring visit report approvals, deviations, trial master file progress, etc.  The configurable dashboards can then be downloaded and re-used allowing project teams and sponsors alike to follow along with the real-time progress of the projects.
About the CTI IT Team
CTI's Information Technology department includes some of the most tenured members of the CTI team, professionals who have been working with systems since CRFs were collected and cleaned on paper. We have seen the industry systems grow into the current gold standard and know how to work with them to achieve our sponsors' goals as effectively and efficiently as possible.

The CTI Way

Every month, we choose a theme highlighting characteristics of our company culture, something we describe as "The CTI Way." This month's theme is "learn."

CTI encourages the constant pursuit of knowledge through programs like formal internal training series, partnerships with local universities, and a tuition assistance benefit.

We believe that successful people are lifelong learners and successful organizations are ones that support their employees’ desire to learn.

The Year of the Employee

Every month, we'll be spotlighting one of our employees and their contributions to CTI. We are successful as a company because of our passionate and talented employees, who work tirelessly to bring life-changing drugs to patients around the world.

Tommie Grotjan, MS
Project Leader, Information Technology
Tommie joined CTI in 2014 as as Senior Study Coordinator where she was able to provide leadership and support in preparing project plans and developing sponsor and project-specific SOPs.

When it was time for CTI to make the switch over to electronic TMFs, Tommie was an integral part of the team that helped make the process a smooth transition. She has worked in collaboration with numerous departments in order to improve their processes, increase accuracy, create efficiency and achieve the overall goals of the departments as well as CTI. Her current role as a project leader allows her to proactively identify areas in which technology can help to improve business processes and productivity. She currently spends a large amount of her time dedicated to CTI's Learning Management System, which is integral to the continued learning and training of our employees.
